Please designate your piece as a Department or a Feature, and include only one submission per email.

Features:
Limit the length of your feature article to 1500–3000 words. Your work should be original, and either investigative or reflective. Insightful or humorous essays will also be considered. Interviews with interesting empty nesters are a plus! In your article, please include links to related websites, books, and other useful information. Also send captioned, lo-res photos (72 dpi) to illustrate the text, and a short bio with headshot.

Departments:
Limit the length of your department article to 750–1000 words. Queries are encouraged! Regular departments include Mind, Body, Money, Culture (theater, film, books), Family, Sports, Generations, Style, Travel, Home, and Perspective. We welcome creative pieces (fiction and nonfiction, poetry) and will entertain suggestions for new departments. In your article, please include links to related sites and a short bio, with headshot. Be prepared to send captioned, lo-res photos (72 dpi) to illustrate your piece.

The Process
Please note that all submissions accepted for publication are subject to editing and will be formatted to fit the magazine's standard design and layout style.

You can expect a response to your submission within 4 weeks.

Finally, Empty Nest does not pay for submissions, although our goal is that eventually all writers will receive a paycheck for their accepted work. We look forward to hearing from you!
